Musicals in Madison this Fall and Winter

If you’re in need of a study break between midterms or looking for a way to relax after finals, here are three musicals at Overture Center this fall and winter that you won't want to miss!Fun HomeForward Theatre Company's production of Fun Home will run from November 1 to November 25. This musical is about Alison Bechdel's journey to understand herself, especially her sexuality, and her relationship with her father. The original Broadway production of Fun Home won 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical. According to The Huffington Post, Fun Home is the first Broadway musical that has a lesbian protagonist. Forward Theatre Company's production features Tony-Award winning actor Karen Olivo. Students will be able to purchase $25 student rush tickets one hour before curtain in person for this show.School of RockWith music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, School of Rock is based on the hit film of the same name. The musical follows Dewey Finn, a guitarist who becomes a substitute teacher after being kicked out of his band. After discovering his students’ musical talents, Dewey forms a rock band with them and leads the group to a band competition. You will be able to see this rock musical from November 20 to November 25.Finding NeverlandIf you are planning to stay in Madison overwinter break, Finding Neverland is a musical that you won't want to miss. This is another musical that is based on the critically-acclaimed movie of the same name. In this musical, the audience will follow playwright J.M. Barrie's journey to find inspirations and become a writer. This show will run from January 8 to January 13 at Overture Center for the Arts.
