Sitting

"Sitting" by Maddy Henkel7 inches x 7 inches, colored pencils and inkMy drawings act as a diary, but they aren't always an explicit representation of my life. I oftentimes give my thoughts to imaginary spokespersons; that is to say, I draw made-up people speaking my own words. Doing this allows me to express my feelings openly without the fear that everyone will know about my personal life. I also think it makes my mind seem more relatable, as if anyone could be thinking the very same things. "Sitting" is about my thoughts on a particular individual, but shown in two different situations. The person on the left is speaking to this individual. They are represented as a glowing black circle because they were never very present to me physically, but always seemed to be on my mind. In a similar way, the person on the right is also speaking to this individual, who may or may not be the clementine they are trying to pick apart.
