Happy listening.Suffering through the last few months of winter may have been a whole lot worse if it weren’t for the built up anticipation I felt when learning of all of the new releases that were promised within the month of April. April will bring releases from many celebrated indie, lo-fi, and bedroom pop artists. The month will begin with albums from Frankie Cosmos, Japanese Breakfast, Tacocat, and Teen Suicide all being released on April 1st. Those releases will be followed by albums from Double Double Whammy Artists Eskimeaux and Free Cake for Every Creature on April 15th.[video_embed url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IJB0aD8gSA" embed_style="default"][spacer height="20"]“Next Thing” by Frankie Cosmos is the first full LP that has been released since Zentropy in 2013. Introducing cute new pop melodies, the new album has already received best new album on Pitchfork. Consisting of fifteen tracks, this album is a calm and fun, yet an emotional listen.Similarly, highly underrated bedroom pop artist Japanese Breakfast also released an album on April 1st. “Psychopomp,” featuring nine tracks, has similar aspects to the Frankie Cosmos album. It includes catchy melodies, emotional lyrics, and also received a high album rating on Pitchfork.A different type of recognition, Seattle band, Tacocat, had the privilege of re-recording the Powerpuff Girl theme song before Lost Time was released on April 1st. The band has a focus on addressing sexism and promoting feminist ideas within their high-energy and surfy songs. Their new twelve-track record continues to advocate these ideas as well as creates an upbeat energy you will want to dance to over and over.In contrast, It’s the Big Joyous Celebration, Let’s Stir the Honeypot by Teen Suicide is filled with sad, somber sounds. A highly anticipated release, it is their first album since February 2013. While this album sparked great excitement, it is also said that it will be the last album that the band plans to release. The album, which features 26 tracks, did not leave fans disappointed. It is filled with catchy melodies, interesting sound experimentation, and sad, yet relatable lyrics.Although not yet released, Eskimeaux is planning to release a six track EP, titled Year of the Rabbit just six months after releasing her full-length album Two Mountains. After releasing a few singles from her upcoming record, it is safe to say that it will be filled with soft, emotional melodies. Similarly, Talking Quietly of Anything with You, the upcoming release from Philadelphia band Free Cake for Every Creature, leaves listeners also anticipating catchy, lo-fi, emotion filled melodies. All of these releases are perfect soundtracks for rainy days, nice walks outside, and spring-cleaning. They are ideal for entertaining while distracting your mind from the anxiety often builds up waiting for the end of the semester.
