Kawarimono

Acrylic on panel, 18 inches x 24 inches
In my work, I explore themes of solitude, sadness, romance, mystery and human-food interactions. I often begin my paintings with a small simplified sketch, and at times a more rendered drawing, that I translate onto the canvas or panel. Based on how the initial sketch lends itself to abstraction, manipulation and exaggeration I make decisions on how to transform it into a more complex painted representation. The end result are figures that get contorted in ways that diverge from anatomical correctness, to express an underlying aspect of the characters' nature.
